 Intensifying Hostilities
« Thread Started on Apr 28, 2007, 12:41am »

The night sky was illuminated by the few visible stars and lights on the surface of Coruscant. Over the years, admiral Kay-Sin Verkhan had gotten quite used to the security of the planet, after the Empire had taken control of the galaxy. However, he still enjoyed the intensity of battle. He did not think that he would be fighting Rebels on Coruscant any time soon, however.

Kay-Sin looked around, at the dozen Rebel soldiers who had their blasters pointed in his direction. Of course, they assumed he would have surrendered at this point. Admiral Kay-Sin Verkhan found this amusing, since they had no idea who they were dealing with. Only minutes ago, he had been informed that enemy forces had been located on the planet. Kay-Sin volunteered to take a small squad to deal with the Rebels. He watched earlier as the stormtroopers he sent were shot down with exceptional skill. He had underestimated his enemy... just as they were underestimating him now.

"Okay Imperial, hands up!", one of the Rebel soldiers ordered. Admiral Verkahn remained calm, and replied, "Please, let's remain civil. I'll just have to escort you to prison, and no more lives will have to be lost"
The Rebel said back sarcastically, "Hmmm... let me think about that. No deal!" A shot fired from the blaster, and Kay-Sin concentrated, drawing strength from the Force. He threw his hand out, and the blaster bolt flew into it. He did not recoil, or even flinch at all. The bolt was simply absorbed by the Force, which bewildered the Rebel troops.

The Rebel who fired the shot at Kay-Sin had his eyes opened wide in disbelief. He shot again, higher this time, towards Kay-Sin's head. Kay-Sin again concentrated hard, and struggled to keep focus. Again, he was able to absorb the shot, but he was losing focus. To assure his victory, Kay-Sin threw his hand out, and with the power of the Force, was able to send the gun flying out of the hands of the Rebel.

"Whoa! This guy must be some kind of Jedi or something", one of the Rebels stated. Kay-Sin smiled slightly, and turned to regard the speaker.
"Close," he replied, "Though now, I suppose the more appropriate term would be Dark Jedi"
Another Rebel spoke up. "Then I guess we can consider you a warm up for when we get to Darth Vader"
Kay-Sin felt suddenly astounded that these people would actually even consider challenging Lord Vader, after the sad show they had been so far. Kay-Sin had a serious expression on his face.

"My offer still stands", the admiral stated, "You can either allow me to escort you to an Imperial prison, or you can face certain death"
Kay-Sin reached into his belt, and took out his lightsaber. He activated the blade, and in a startling snap-hiss the red energy sprang to life. The Rebels started to open fire, though each shot either missed, or deflected off of Kay-Sin's saber. Kay-Sin could sense the fear in his enemies.

So far, two shots had been deflected right into the chest of the unlucky attackers who had originally fired it. Kay-Sin dashed towards one enemy, and stabbed his lightsaber through their stomach. Kay-Sin then spun around, spinning his lightsaber as well, and beheaded another attacker. The battle continued, and eventually only three Rebels were left standing. "You Rebel scum should have thought this through", Kay-Sin calmly said.

The three Rebels were shaking so much, that Kay-Sin didn't even need to bother blocking the shots they fired. He had regained focus, and decided to show them the power of the Dark Side. He held his hand out. Lightning shot from his fingertips, spreading over the three Alliance soldiers. They screamed in pain. Kay-Sin let the electricity flow from his hand, until at last the three were dead. Kay-Sin sighed after the small battle, and decided it was time to return to his Star Destroyer. He had volunteered to deal with the Rebels here, because he knew it was only a small group, and wouldn't be much of a problem. Now, though, he had other matters to deal with.

Admiral Verkhan returned to the Lambda-class shuttle he left in the starport. He took off, and docked with The Heartless, which was the Star Destroyer under his command. It didn't take the admiral long to reach the bridge, where the captain walked to greet him.
"Captain," Kay-Sin began, "Are all the TIE Fighters and bombers aboard?"
"Yes, admiral", the captain replied, "We are now ready to make the jump to hyperspace"
"Good", admiral Verkhan said, nodding. "Then make the jump to the Saleucami system. We can now continue with our original mission"

The Star Destroyer eased out of hyperspace above the planet Saleucami. Kay-Sin looked down at the planet from the bridge of the Star Destroyer, reminiscing the time he had spent on this planet during the Clone Wars. He remembered having to battle the Separatists, with the clone troopers under his command. He was returning to the planet now to root out and destroy the Rebel opposition that had been reported by Imperial probe droids on the surface of the planet.

The captain of the Imperial ship walked towards Kay-Sin. "Sir", he said, "We have entered the Saleucami system now. The Rebellion will most likely attempt to flee with their transports. We are prepared to attack, and have some platoons of stormtroopers ready to land on the surface"
Kay-Sin nodded, and said back, "Hold here. Prepare to send the fighters, and start landing the troops"

OOC: Sorry for the long post.

IC:

Cryus Saul strode through Emperor Palpatine's massive cathedral in the midst of the cityscape of Imperial Center, the name Coruscant donned just after the Clone Wars. The halls were barren of personnel just as they always have been. The dark side of the Force permeated the columns and sleek designs of the palace, tainting the atmosphere. Imperial Center was greatly more ghastly than its day in the Old Republic's control.

Speaking of which, Cryus had marginally forgotten why he was here. A small Rebel cell had penetrated Imperial Center's massive and formidable fleet. How that happened, no one really knew and the Imperial Security Bureau was under scrutiny for this fiasco. The group was successfully wiped from existence but not by the Imperial Guard, or the ISB for that matter. Two of the victims were shot dead, one impaled, another decapitated, and the remaining three electrocuted.

One could assume the Emperor himself executed the pitiful little band of Rebels, which the Imperial Navy sought to believe. But the Emperor would rarely reveal himself in the public or let alone some dark alley. With the ISB stumped and several Coruscant Guards posted at the general area of the attack court-marshaled, the incident became rapidly unclear as to who to blame or the one who thwarted the attack.

It was all too clear to Cryus Saul that this was the work of Jedi with the teachings of the dark side. Thusly, he was summoned by Emperor Palpatine.

The Emperor's throne room consisted of a vast foyer with several ancient cabinet's holding his most personal acquisitions. A ten meter wide staircase rose several meters to another expanse about a quarter of the size smaller than the aforementioned foyer. Placed before a generous viewport reminiscent of a TIE fighters similar design was a throne chair holding the decrepit Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious. The only light source from the outside world was tinted in his favor.

Cryus ascended the stairway and halted a meter before the chair, lowering into a kneel and bowing his head. Submitting to his lord's power is what Palpatine liked best.

"Rise my Hand." The deep and crackled voice ordered. "Tell me, why have you come here?"

"You summoned, my prestige, to discuss the insurgent in the Krill District." Cryus rose and coupled his hand behind his teal cloak.

"Your forecast serves you well." Palpatine spoke with his chair facing the port. "Indeed, I called you for that purpose. This is in an unexpected visit from our Rebel friends and a curious way to halt their intrusion."

The Jedi no doubt, Cryus mused well in the back of his mind from the Emperor's probes.

Palpatine continued, "I have viewed some disturbing holo security footage caught from a vender's receptors. It would seem one of our own Navy admiral's posses the abilities of the Force and the weapon of the Jedi."

The chair finally swiveled to Cryus's direction, Palpatine making eye contact with him. "It would seem the Jedi are not extinct as previously thought and have resulted in sabotage." Palpatine affirmed.

Cryus tucked his head into a bow, "What is thy bidding, my master?"

"This commander, an Admiral Kay-Sin Verkhan, is leaving for Saleucami under my orders to eliminate a Rebel sect. Board his Destroyer and serve him not as my Hand but under a facade. There, you will observe him, contact me, and eliminate him."

Cryus again submitted to a kneel, "As you wish, my lord."

Cryus Saul, or rather "General Kek Crispin", managed to infiltrate the Star Destroyer, Heartless, before it left for Saleucami. Cryus tugged on the olive-gray uniform of the Imperial Navy, walked through the durasteel corridors of the capital ship, watching personnel drift through daily shifts.

Cryus managed to don the many outfits at his disposal, forge a troop transfer permit, and became the new commander of the Heartless's ground forces. This wasn't the first time he betrayed fellow imperial whom fallen under treason. The floor rumbled as the Destroyer egressed out of hyperspace above Saleucami.

Cryus Saul's mission was now to begin.

Thirty TIE Fighters and ten TIE Bombers flew from the hangar of the Star Destroyer. From the planet Saleucami, Twenty X-Wings flew to intercept, with Fifteen Y-Wings. Before the troops could be sent to the surface, Kay-Sin decided this group of fighters had to be eliminated. It did not take long for the battle to begin. Admiral Verkhan watched as the green and red lasers flew from the ships.

"Have ten fighters separate from the main squadron, and prepare to intercept the Y-Wings", Kay-Sin ordered.
Ten of the TIEs then stopped their assault on the enemy fighters, and aimed at the enemy bombers. It took about five minutes for five of the Y-Wings to be destroyed. Three were able to drop their payload, which was able to hurt the shields of the Star Destroyer. The Y-Wings were now busy trying to fly away from the capital ship, with the TIEs in pursuit. Meanwhile, more and more X-Wings were being destroyed.

The battle continued, and five TIE Fighters were destroyed, while all of the Y-Wings had been eliminated. All of the remaining Imperial forces concentrated on the X-Wings that were left, and they were all destroyed with ease. Once the battle finished, Kay-Sin ordered all of the Imperial ships back into the hangar. He knew the Rebellion had more resources at their disposal, but now he could begin landing the troops.

---

Since Kay-Sin had returned to his ship after Coruscant, he had felt something strange. He felt another dark presence, not very different from his own. Earlier, he had been informed that a new general would be arriving on his ship. Kay-Sin surmised the dark presence was coming from this new arrival, though he wondered who exactly this general was.

Kay-Sin turned around, and pulled the captain aside. "Captain, I'm placing you in charge now. I'm going to the planet to lead the troopers. They will most likely send a bigger force next time. Be prepared"
"Yes, sir. If they attack again, we can defeat them", the captain assured.

Admiral Verkhan strode to the hangar. The last of the troops were boarding the shuttles, and it was almost time to leave. Before giving the order, however, he decided to have a talk with Kek Crispin, who would be aiding him once they landed. He hoped he would be a strong leader, and that the two of them would be able to work together, and the mission would succeed better than he had hoped. Now, though, Kay-Sin had an odd feeling that there was some sort of conspiracy, and that he was the victim.

Kay-Sin could tell instantly that Crispin was Force Sensitive. Further, he had a dark aura surronding him. He had not met the general in person yet, but he didn't have to. Kay-Sin could sense the dark energy. Kay-Sin began to wonder if the general had had training in the ways of the Force. Now, admiral Verkhan decided it was time to chat with the general, and walked towards the man.

Cryus Saul calmly overlooked the hanger from the rear. It was crowded with landing craft and the occasional AT-AT barge in between. The hustle and bustle had died down as the last squad of stormtroopers boarded a landing craft. Saul smiled wanly, it was sometime since he had a battalion under his command. And to think, with a simple four letter code he could assume control of the entire Star Destroyer. The many perks of being the Hand of the Emperor.

Out of the corner of his eye, Saul spotted Admiral Verkhan making his way to him. Saul winced as the admiral brushed him with the Force in his mind. No doubt, he knows I'm sensitive. Saul shrouded his aura deep into his center, in a desperate attempt to sheath himself.

Verkhan situated himself in front of Saul, which he responded with a salute.

"It's nice to finally meet you Admiral."
